Variety is the spice…
The Porsche Taycan is available in several different flavors determined by your sporting taste and the pain threshold of your financial adviser. Start with the "entry-level" (as-if) Porsche Taycan 4S. It features a 79.2 kWh battery and twin motor-generators, making 522 horsepower. It features 19-inch wheels and an adaptive air suspension.
The Porsche Taycan Turbo includes a more-powerful battery pack, in this case, 93.4 kWh, which translates to 670 horsepower. It moves up to 20-inch wheels, includes Porsche surface coated brakes and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus. Oh, and if a Taycan EV is too quiet for you, you may enjoy the Bose 14-speaker/710-watt surround-sound audio system.
Next up is the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. This is the magic carpet ride of the bunch, although they all are pretty magical. The system operates with a similar 93.4 kWh battery pack making 750 horsepower. Add in rear-wheel steering, ceramic composite brakes, 21-inch alloy wheels and Porsche's Sport Chrono package for a package that will make your Taycan a full-fledged 'Bahn burner.

What powers the Porsche Taycan?
The Porsche Taycan is motivated by a pair of silent electric motors. That's right; there's no noise coming from the motors. Sure, there's a purr, but that's about all. The batteries are placed close to the Taycan's floor for a superbly balanced low center of gravity, giving it a definitive Porsche feel.
By the numbers, the motor generators line up like this:
- Taycan 4S: Dual electric motors producing 522 horsepower with launch control and 472 lb-ft of torque. EPA Rated on a full charge: 199 miles*.
- Taycan 4S With Performance Battery Plus: 563 horsepower with launch control and 479 lb-ft of torque. EPA Rated on a full charge: 227 miles*.
- Taycan Turbo: 670 horsepower with launch control and 626 lb-ft of torque. EPA Rated on a full charge 212 miles*.

All models are complete with all-wheel drive, although there is an available Taycan rear-drive model for those not needing the traction from the front-drive motor. The mileage ratings are conservative, but it never hurts to top off the power when you are able.Â

How does the Porsche Taycan look?
Squint and you might think you are looking at a Porsche Panamera. The reality is that the Taycan is a hair shorter than that, is longer than some of its Teutonic rivals and overall a largeish sedan. Unlike a Tesla, it has a standard trunk/cargo area to carry suitcases or golf bags.
Porsche innovation is at the forefront here and this idea is so brilliant that it's amazing that others haven't thought of it before now: Charging ports on both sides of the vehicle! So instead of awkwardly parking to be close to the cable and charging port, you can charge it from either side. The iconic Porsche LED matrix headlights are here with their distinctive, unique looks, so observers instantly recognize it as a Taycan.
The roof can be had as either a glass-panel moonroof or a double-bubble aluminum panel. A new Carbon Sport Design is available on all models and includes carbon-fiber pieces and rims on the rear diffuser. It is standard on the Turbo S trim level.

What about inside the Taycan?
There's a whole-lotta touching going on. That's what you'll find inside the new Porsche Taycan. It features a wide array of touchscreen displays with controls to operate virtually every part of the vehicle. There is a complete array of digital screens ranging from a 16.8-inch curved instrument panel screen, a 10.9-inch central display for navigation and audio controls and an 8.4-inch panel located below that to control the climate inside.
Buyers can opt for standard 8-way adjustable seating or up the ante a bit and spring for the 18-way adaptive sport seats. The cabin sits four passengers normally, but Porsche does offer a middle seat need to be pressed into service.
Cargo space is typical for this type of vehicle. The standard trunk is good for up to 14.3 cubic feet of cargo space. The Taycan Turbo packs a little less at 12.9 cubic feet. The Frunk (trunk in the front) socks away an additional 2.9 cubic feet.
