By The Numbers: How Does The Porsche Panamera Measure Up?
If this were Baseball, you would be smart to think of the Porsche Panamera as a clutch, utility player. That means the Panamera is good at whatever it does. Twenty-one different versions are derived from three different body styles with seven different means of motivation. And don't get us started with the options. Do you have a favorite color for the interior or exterior? That's no problem. Porsche can custom blend the hue of your paint or dye the leather hides inside your Panamera in any color, period. The hard reality is that almost every Porsche Panamera built will be a custom offering, designed specifically for its original buyer.
The Panamera is available in several body styles ranging from a standard four-door fastback sedan, which bears a strong resemblance to a stretched version of the two-door Porsche 911. Next is an Executive (extended-wheelbase) version with a bit more legroom in the backseat area and a Sport Turismo (our personal favorite) version that resembles a station wagon, or as they call it in Europe, a shooting brake. Each has a distinct personality, but there is no mistaking their Stuttgart pedigree once you get behind the wheel. Take your pick. There is a different model for each Porsche owner. The variations are limitless.
When it comes to power, there are many types and variables to choose from. Regardless of which engine motivates your Panamera, it will be of the twin-turbocharged variety. Base power for the Panamera and Panamera 4 derives from a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 making 325 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. Powering the Panamera 4S is the 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that makes 443 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. A 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 powers the Panamera GTS to the tune of 473 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. In comparison, an uprated twin-turbo version of the same engine cranks 620 horsepower and 604 lb-ft of torque for the Panamera Turbo.
Finally, there are the hybrids. The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is motivated by the 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 + electric motor that produces 455 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque when both gas and electric power are combined. The next-step Porsche Panamera 4S E-hybrid makes 552 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. In contrast, the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid delivers 680 horsepower / 626 lb-ft of torque 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 + electric motor.
Rear-wheel-drive is the normal configuration for the Panamera, but some models like the Panamera 4, or Panamera Turbo can be ordered in AWD. All versions use the eight-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission.
